>> What's an IRS Tax Settlement
A Tax Settlment is when someone settles their tax debt through an IRS filing. The IRS offers settlements to those that are struggling with their tax debts. The tax settlement that you qualify for is dependent upon your unique financial situation. And even though the IRS wants their money in full, they will make exceptions for certain circumstances and settle for less...a lot less in some cases.

>> What Outcome Can You Expect
One of 3 things will occur when you try to settle with the IRS.  The IRS will either 1) do nothing and deny your filing, 2) negotiate a less amount owed, or 3) work out an agreement to pay the debt over certain amount of time. Depending on your unique financial situation you will fall into one of those 3 outcomes. You first must figure out which program you should apply for and submit the appropriate forms to the IRS. It is highly recommended to talk with the tax professionals at Tax Settlement Advisors to figure out which program you qualify for, and to have us submit those forms for you as we have done this and seen this thousands of times. Because the IRS has so many of these cases annually to deal with, they are mechanical in nature in their approach for settlements and therefore we know what works and what doesn't. We can quickly tell you your most likely outcome during the upfront free consultation.
>> What You Need to Get Started
In order to start the settlement process, you first need to make sure you are up to date with your tax filings and be sure to file any unfiled tax returns. It is highly suggested you use a CPA to file an amendment to try and reduce the tax debt in the process of submitting the unfiled returns. At Tax Settlement Advisors, we have CPAs on staff that team with our experts to begin the negotiation process with the IRS during the submission of any unfiled tax returns. Once you have filed and know how much you owe, you can review the tax settlement options with us and see what settlement method you qualify for, if any at all.

>> Types of IRS Tax Settlments
Offer in Compromise - This is when you make an offer to settle with the IRS for an amount of money that you can afford to pay in exchange for the IRS wiping the remaining liability clean. When making the offer you will have to convince the IRS that the amount you offer is more than the amount that they would be able to collect from you through forced collections without forcing you into financial hardship.
Partial Payment Installment Agreement - This is paying back the taxes owed over a period of time including any amounts you settle with the IRS. The IRS Payment Plan option is typically available to those individuals that cannot meet the minimum payment amount required.
Penalty Abatement - This is used to eliminate all or part of penalties owed and is another lever you can use to reduce the tax debt. The IRS will often impose heavy penalties to get you to pay them as part of their scare tactics. Again, if you use our tax professionals, you may easily eliminate these amounts as we know how to deal with IRS penalties.
